Empowerment of Members Brings Forth PSEM Into Full-Geared Action Nationwide!

“Diabetics Got Talent!” in Mindanao, “Musical Parade” in Bicol, “Exercise in the Park” in Dagupan, Ilocos and Western Visayas, “Diabetes on Air” in Eastern Visayas and “Hawak Kamay and Blood Testing on Wheels” in Manila are just a few of the many activities the PSEM members all over the country successfully accomplished to celebrate the “National Diabetes Awareness Week”. True to its form, the celebration was, indeed, NATIONWIDE!

In 2008, during the presidency of Dr. Lala Acampado, the PSEM members numbering over 200 were grouped into regions (Northern Luzon, Northern Tagalog, Southern Tagalog, Bicol, Western Visayas, Easter Visayas, and Mindanao) and the four corners of Metro Manila (Metro East, Metro West, Metro North, and Metro South). Each regional group is composed of a minimum of four to a maximum of 15 PSEM members (regular, associate and affiliate). Each group is headed by a liaison officer linked to a PSEM Board Member in-charge of a specific area group. This restructuring of PSEM membership resulted into a stronger force in every nook of the country. The renewed countrywide PSEM membership involvement was evident during this year’s Diabetes Awareness Week celebration. Aside from the various aforementioned activities, the PSEM members also collaborated with other organizations equally pursuing diabetes advocacies. These events included lay education on healthy lifestyle and early recognition of signs and symptoms of diabetes, free screening, and other related tests (cholesterol, ECGs). The same activities were observed in various hospitals in Metro Manila (St. Luke’s Medical Center, Makati Medical Center, UST Hospital, Las Pinas Doctors Hospital, Asian Hospital and Medical Center, and Pasig, San Juan and Mandaluyong areas) and provincial hospitals and malls (Dagupan City, Pampanga, Bulacan, Bataan, Zambales, Ilocos, Bicol, Iloilo City, Tacloban City, and Cagayan de Oro City).

A tri-media coverage of the celebration also transpired in major newspapers and magazines, radio stations and television networks reaching every corner of the Philippines.

As ever, this milestone in the PSEM crusade was made possible thru the generous support from our corporate partners.

Indeed, moving in one full force, PSEM truly can serve millions and millions of Filipinos!
