CPG’s (Clinical Practice Guidelines) are mostly evidence-based protocols to diagnose and treat diseases. But these should be deemed as mere guides not rules. This is reflected in the 2010 PSEM Annual Meeting with a theme: Translating Guidelines to Practice: Individualized Care in Endocrinology (ICE). The racial, genetic, environmental, and cultural differences make an individual unique.
The scientific program will review the CPG’s in type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, diabetes in teens, lipids, osteoporosis, and general endocrinology (GH in adults, primary aldosteronism, and Cushing syndrome).
Institutional CPG’s from UP-PGH and UST Hospital on thyroid cancer and nodules, repectively, will also be presented.
For the second time, the Philippine Society for the Study of Aging Male (PHISSAM) will be collaborating on the issues on androgen deficiency syndrome, erectile dysfunction, and osteoporosis in males.
There will also be case-based discussions during the Meet-the Experts sessions on obesity, hirsutism and androgen, and insulin pump use.
A showcase of late breaking international and local trials is the newest additional feature in the scientific program.
Highlights in the meeting is the updates on three international renowned guest speakers, Dr. Jack Leahy (USA), Dr. Karel Pacak (NIH, USA), and Dr. Keiko Irie (Japan), and the awarding of “Insulin for life” sponsorship to deserving patients.
There are also several symposia and exhibits from our partners in the pharmaceutical industries.
Everyone is invited to the “Walk for Fun” on March 19, 2010, the second day of the Annual Convention. The activity is part of the “Fit for You” project of PSEM.
Enjoy the program!
