Our theme this year is “Prediabetes and Insulin Resistance in Special Populations.” The opening lecture will thread on the path of pre-prediabetes followed by a discussion on diseases linked to insulin resistance like CVD and cancer.

What comprise the special populations? We will hear an elaboration on the difference in insulin resistance between the lean and obese. There will also be a discussion on metabolic syndrome among the teens and on tackling the intervention and treatment during the transition period.

Several studies have already shown that PCOS, is indeed, a prediabetic state, and by addressing the insulin resistance, development of diabetes may be alleviated. An expert panel will enlighten us on the quandary of PCOS, its diagnosis and treatment.

After all is said and done, does it really matter to address metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance? Does this disease entity have an impact in our clinical practice? We will be treated to updates on how far science has cleared the gray zones in this path, which significantly becomes the focus of research to prevent the development of diabetes.
